An essential skill for safe Sedation Dentistry and dental anesthesia is the ability to maintain our patient’s airway for safe ventilation if the patient becomes unable to do so on their own.
Dr. Peltzer recently attended the course “Difficult Airway Course-Anesthesia” for anesthesiologists. This advanced educational program is accredited by the prestigious American Medical Association (AMA) Physician’s Recognition Award continuing education program for health care providers.
This advanced airway course is presented by Ron Walls, MD, Michael Murphy, MD and Robert Luten, MD who are all experts in the field of difficult airway management and dental sedation and medical sedation at Harvard Medical School, University of Alberta and the University of Florida. Due to the sophisticated nature of this training, the course is attended primarily by Dentist Anesthesiologists, Medical Anesthesiologists and CRNA’s.
The goal of “The Difficult Airway Course for Anesthesia” is to provide or reinforce familiarity of participants with the full range of skills needed to confidently manage the difficult airway during anesthesia, should this become necessary. Multiple skills and modalities of caring for difficult cases are perfected. Operating room experience, both outpatient surgical centers (such as Dr. Peltzer’s Gentle Dental Care) and hospital experience are emphasized in this course.
Anesthesiologists in attendance were familiar with these techniques but do not need to use them all frequently, so the hands on review with nationally renowned experts in dental sedation and anesthesia was very helpful. Training included lecture, laboratory skills and time with patients in the operating room, perfecting skills learned several years ago.
Dr. Peltzer’s successful completion of this intensive training program resulted in receiving the prestigious American Medical Association (AMA) Physician’s Recognition Award of 21 CE hours of educational credit over three days of intense training.
Patient safety is always paramount. A clinician must constantly seek out the very best in continuing education to better serve our patients. Dr. Peltzer has a 100 % safety record.
